BST 2025 Annual Ranking Rules
For the 2025 BST annual rankings, BST has decided to deviate from the complex ISA points
system. The following changes will apply in 2025:
Scoring System
The rankings will be based on the Small Point System, where the competitor with the
fewest points wins. The point allocation is as follows:
- 1st place → 1 point
- 2nd place → 2 points
- 3rd place → 3 points
- Each subsequent place → +1 additional point
- DNS (Did Not Start) / DNF (Did Not Finish) / DSQ (Disqualified) → Total number ofcompetitors registered for that competition +1 point
Best Results Count
From the total 8 BST competitions, only the 5 best results (lowest scores) will be counted
in the final ranking:
- After 4 races: The worst score is dropped.
- After 6 races: The two worst scores are dropped.
- After 8 races: The three worst scores are dropped.
Aborted Races (Partial Abandonment)
If a race is aborted for a part of the competitors, those who were ordered to leave the water
will receive one point more than the last competitor who managed to finish the race.
Aborted Races (Full Abandonment)
If a race is aborted for all competitors, all participants in the race will be assigned the
same finishing position and points. If a competitor received a time penalty before the race
was stopped, this penalty time will be added to their recorded time at the point of race
termination.
Medal Race for Age Categories (Kids & Cadets)
If a separate medal race is not held for specific age categories (Kids, Cadets), the ranking
will be extracted from the OPEN ranking, excluding competitors who do not belong to the
given age category.
Example:
5 Cadets compete in an Open category race with 35 participants. The Cadet rankings are then assigned as follows:
- C1st/Open 3rd → 1 point
- C2nd/Open 10th → 2 points
- C3rd/Open 17th → 3 points
- C4th/Open 22nd → 4 points
- C5th/Open DNF/DSQ → 6 points
Tie-breaker Rules
In case of a tie in the total points for places 1st, 2nd, or 3rd, the ranking will be determined
as follows:
- The competitor with the lower ranking (better placement) in the most recent race
will be ranked higher. - If this does not resolve the tie, the last direct duel (head-to-head result) between
the tied competitors will be considered. - If the tie persists, the most recent race result will be used to determine the final
ranking.
Final Ranking Announcement
The final BST annual ranking will be announced on Sunday, December 14, 2025, after the
last race of the year: SUP4Life in Ghent.
