DESCRIPTION:Cancelled due to the continued presence of blue-green algae.\nStand Up Paddle Brings Movement to”Het Eilandje”\nBelgian Stand Up Paddle Championships\nDuring the weekend of 29–30 August 2026\, Het Eilandje in Beweging will host a full weekend dedicated to Stand Up Paddle (SUP)\, the fastest-growing watersport in Flanders. \n \nOn Saturday\, 29 August\, the Belgian SUP Tour (BST) will organize the Official Belgian Long Distance SUP Championship\, where Belgium’s top SUP athletes will compete for the national title over a challenging long-distance course. \nOn Sunday\, 30 August\, the focus shifts to the BST Technical Race. This spectacular event\, which counts towards the overall Belgian SUP Tour rankings\, combines speed\, technical skills\, and agility on a demanding course featuring buoy turns\, pivot turns\, and short sprint sections. \nThroughout both days\, the general public will also have the opportunity to discover the sport. From 12:00 until 16:00\, free SUP introduction sessions will be offered continuously under the guidance of experienced instructors. Participants of all ages can safely experience why Stand Up Paddle has become one of the fastest-growing watersports in recent years. \nSunday will also mark the official launch of a brand-new competition format: the first round of the BST Team Competition. Recreational teams will compete against one another on an accessible race course using identical SUP boards\, placing the emphasis on fun\, teamwork\, and sporting challenge. \nCombining elite competition\, recreational activities\, and numerous opportunities to experience the sport firsthand\, Het Eilandje in Beweging promises to deliver a unique watersports weekend where both experienced paddlers and curious newcomers can enjoy the excitement and atmosphere of this spectacular discipline. \nEvent Schedule\nThe event also serves as the official Belgian selection race for athletes aiming to qualify for the 2026 European SUP Championships\, which will take place 18–22 September 2026 in Crete\, Greece. During this unique event\, the Belgian Long Distance Championship and the Belgian Sprint Championship will both be contested\, making it one of the highlights of the 2026 BST season. \n\nThe event welcomes Elite\, Junior\, Cadet\, Kids and Recreational paddlers\, offering competitive racing for experienced athletes as well as an accessible challenge for newcomers.
